An indescribable Experience — Roger Hiew

Our group was fairly large. There were 11 kids (between 11-15 years old) in our group. Since there were 3 leaders for this group, we decided to split the group into 3 smaller groups. There were 4 boys (Miguel, Jonathan, Jorge, and Carlos) in my group. During one of our teaching sessions, I had asked the boys whether they have asked Jesus to be their Lord and Saviour. Other than Jorge, everyone did. At that moment, I knew that God has presented an opportunity for me to share the Gospel with Jorge. I told our local assistant that I would pull Jorge aside during bedside fellowship so that I could have some alone time to talk to him. During bedside fellowship that night, Jorge showed up late. Since he was late, there was no seat for him and he had to join the teaching leaders at another table. It was clear that God wanted me to talk to Jorge because even though he could have sat beside any of the teaching leaders, Jorge chose to sit beside me. I started asking him if he understood what it meant to ask Jesus to be his Saviour. He was not sure at first, so I explained how initially, we are separated from God because of sin. During our sharing, Jorge complained about the room being very noisy. It was perfect because I had similar thoughts. I also wanted to pull him away from the group so that he would feel more comfortable in sharing. We found a corner of the room I then continued to explain that many people have tried to reach God through their own ability but have failed. The only way to God, the only way to restore our relationship with God is through his Son Jesus Christ. I explained that we must confess our sin to God and ask Jesus to be our Saviour. He understood what I was saying and we prayed together. Jorge accepted Jesus into his heart that night. It was an incredible experience. I knew that the Holy Spirit was with me because I knew what to say to Jorge even though this was my first time sharing the Gospel. I was not even nervous. Praise the Lord because He played an integral part in my sharing of the Gospel. Jorge later told me that he felt immense joy. This reminds of John 15:10-11 iV that if we obey God’s commandments and remain in His love, our joy will overflow. Jorge felt joy because he obeyed God and accepted Jesus into his life.

To be able to witness what transpired that day brings tears in my eyes. I was filled with complete joy to see that I (with God’s blessing, provision, love, and care) was able to bring somebody to Christ. God is incredible for allowed me to experience that. I am left with a thought of what heaven would be like if I am able to experience such joy in Panama! This trip is truly an indescribable experience.
